Following his junior season and 3rd year at Midland Christian HS (TX) in transition to his transfer to 7A Midland High, McLane joined the GAIN Sports platform competing with #TEAMGAIN7v7 at the NFA 7v7 Midwest Regional in April 2016 and on the 2016 GAIN Sports Bus Tour. McLane quickly etched his name in history with the GAIN Sports Bus Tour repeatedly running 4.35 in the 40-yard dash at college camps we attended which at the conclusion of the tour led to head coach Derek Mason of Vanderbilt University extending McLane his first Power 5 scholarship offer. McLane eventually signed with the University of Nevada and in his true freshman season (2017) became the second in program history to earn First Team Freshman All-American honors with 57 receptions for 778 yards and 6 touchdowns while finishing his first semester in college with a 3.7 GPA! Following his sophomore season, McLane transferred to Texas Tech.
